Course information

This course provides a practical introduction to the analysis and visualisation of bulk RNA-seq data. Building on the foundations of Next-Generation Sequencing, it will help you understand how RNA-seq can be used to explore gene expression and generate meaningful insights for biomedical research. You will work with processed NGS outputs and learn how to move from data files to biological interpretation.

Through flexible, hands-on learning, you will use R and RStudio to read in RNA-seq data, annotate features, visualise results and perform differential expression analysis. The course introduces the key steps involved in identifying differentially expressed genes, helping you understand not only how to run the analysis, but also what the results can reveal about biological processes, disease mechanisms or experimental conditions.

This course is designed for people working in biomedical fields who already have a basic knowledge of R and want to start using RNA-seq data in their work or research. By the end of the course, you will have a clearer understanding of what RNA-seq data can offer, how bulk RNA-seq analysis is carried out, and how to apply these methods using example datasets prepared through established NGS pipelines.
